House Select Committee Begins Today in DC

Posted on July 27, 2021

House Select Committee hearing from four police officers about fateful day at Capitol

A select committee launched by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to probe the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump is holding its first hearing Tuesday, with public testimony from four police officers who were on the scene.

The panel, which has begun its work amid intense partisan rancor, is expected to hear about the physical and verbal abuse experienced by the officers as they tried to protect the Capitol from rioters engaged in acts of insurrection who arrived as Congress sought to count the 2020 electoral college results and declare Joe Biden president.

I hope they (meaning the Democrats in the House) don't mess this up. This should be a slam dunk.

California to require proof of Covid-19 vaccination or regular testing for all state employees and health care workers

California will require all state employees and health care workers to provide proof of vaccination status or get regular testing amid a surge of cases from the highly contagious Delta variant, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced in a press conference Monday.

All employees will be required to prove they have received the vaccine by showing their vaccination cards or through a verification code provided by the California Department of Public Health.

Unvaccinated state employees will be required to get tested at least once a week and will be required to wear N95 masks at all times. Unvaccinated health care workers will have to get tested at least twice a week, health officials said.

The “nanny state” is saying to the world, “Hold my beer.”

And for that, I'm proud of them. The ONLY way at this point to kill this virus is through getting as many people as possible vaccinated.

The Most Influential Spreader of Coronavirus Misinformation Online

SAN FRANCISCO — The article that appeared online on Feb. 9 began with a seemingly innocuous question about the legal definition of vaccinesThen over its next 3,400 words, it declared coronavirus vaccines were “a medical fraud” and said the injections did not prevent infections, provide immunity or stop transmission of the disease.

Instead, the article claimed, the shots “alter your genetic coding, turning you into a viral protein factory that has no off-switch.”

Its assertions were easily disprovable. No matter. Over the next few hours, the article was translated from English into Spanish and Polish. It appeared on dozens of blogs and was picked up by anti-vaccination activists, who repeated the false claims online. The article also made its way to Facebook, where it reached 400,000 people, according to data from CrowdTangle, a Facebook-owned tool.

The entire effort traced back to one person: Joseph Mercola.

This guy has always seemed like a loon to me. He's one of those “I have an immune system” kind of guys. I don't wish COVID on anybody, but if he were to get it and suffer horribly, it might send a message to his zombie followers.

But probably not.

I mean, their Messiah got it and they didn't flinch. Then #TFG got vaccinated and they…crickets!

Biden announces end of combat mission in Iraq as he shifts US foreign policy focus

President Joe Biden agreed on Monday to formally conclude the US combat mission in Iraq by the end of the year, another step toward winding down the two prolonged military engagements that began in the years following the September 11 terror attacks.

Biden told reporters in the Oval Office alongside Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi that the US mission in Iraq will shift.

“I think things are going well. Our role in Iraq will be…to be available to continue to train, to assist, to help, and to deal with ISIS — as it arrives. But we're not going to be, by the end of the year, in a combat mission,” the President later said.

We never should have been there in the first place.

Trump ally Tom Barrack’s criminal case isn’t really about lobbying – it’s about national security

Billionaire businessman Tom Barrack is facing criminal charges that are typically described as “illegal foreign lobbying,” or violating “foreign lobbying” laws.

But the federal statute under which Barrack was charged, Section 951 of the U.S. Criminal Code, is used by the Justice Department to prosecute spies, not lobbyists. Which means this case is really about national security.

The founder of Colony Capital and a close friend of former President Donald Trump, Barrack was arrested last Tuesday and charged with operating as an agent of the government of the United Arab Emirates without notifying the Justice Department.

There aren't many folks screaming about this (Malcolm Nance is one of the few), but #TFG and his administration–from Day One–put our national security at risk in the most transparent and dangerous way.

They should all be hanged for treason. No hyperbole.

Olympic champ Biles out of team finals with apparent injury

Reigning Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles is out of the team finals after apparently suffering an injury during the vault.

The 24-year-old U.S. star, considered to be the greatest gymnast of all time, huddled with a trainer after landing her vault. She then exited the competition floor with the team doctor.

Biles returned several minutes later with her right leg wrapped. She took off her bar grips, hugged teammates Grace McCallum, Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles before putting on a jacket and sweatpants.

Biles was the only remaining athlete I wanted to see go for the gold after Sha’Carri Richardson was tossed. Now, I really have no reason to watch the Summer Games.
